National Authors Day : New York, New York
Happy National Authors Day! If you are anything like us, you can basically find us with our nose in a book. Is there anything better than a rainy day, a good book and a coffee? We think not.
But what else do we love as much as books? New York City. What do these things have in common you ask? Keep reading!
Below is a list of our favourite books by our favourite authors - the following books are all set in New York and either written by New Yorkers or authors who have inhabited the city at some point in their lives.
Do yourself a favour and read at *least* one of these books this month.
1. CATCHER IN THE RYE, J.D. SALINGER
Holden Caulfield will forever be our #1 and we have always identified with his views on "phoney's".
2. SWEET BITTER, STEPHANIE DANLER
A coming of age story set in New York never gets old, does it?
3. THE YEAR OF MAGICAL THINKING, JOAN DIDION
Ahhh Joan we love you. The Year of Magical Thinking was written about the year following her husbands death. We would be lying if we said we hadn't read this book more than once. Sweet, sad & poignant this is a must read.
4. Sour Heart, Jenny ZhangThe Sour Heart is the first book published under Lenny, Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner's imprint. 7 witty stories for today's women in New York.
5. Just Kids, Patti Smith
Brooklyn? Chelsea Hotel? Warhol's Factory? Check, check and check. The great Patti Smith beautifully chronicles her early days in New York.
